Curated accommodation, in the Southwest Tallinup region

The House

Perfectly nestled on the banks of the Blackwood River peeping through the majestic Peppermint Gums, The Shipwright’s Mistress is your new favourite holiday haven.

This home goes beyond being a relaxing space to spend time. It’s a fortress for rejuvenation and connection. It’s where we come as a family to ground ourselves and regroup when life’s inevitable stresses start feeling a little heavy to carry.

Renovating this home has truly been a labour of love. So much so that we often joked the house had become like my husband’s (not so) secret lover. As a fourth-generation wooden boat builder, the moniker – The Shipwright’s Mistress – was born and stuck.

We have weaved our love of gentle vintage together with our collection of family-handcrafted nautical pieces into the aesthetic of the home to create a space that’s calm, cosy, inviting and without pretence.

You’ll find the house fitted out with all the creature comforts you need for a truly relaxing and restorative holiday, but what you’ll also notice is the deliberate exclusion of a television.

For our family, we’ve found this is the best way to bring conversation, laughter, moments of connection and pockets of quiet and tranquillity to our stay. We hope you find the same.

Whether your stay is for a brief weekend escape or for a longer, lingering vacation, it’s a place you can call home and instantly feel as serene as the landscape that surrounds you.

Setting

The Aboriginal name for Augusta is Tallinup

Tucked away where the river meets the sea, Augusta has an untamed beauty that is hard to match.

A vibrant bustling township in summer and a tranquil, cosy village in winter. It’s always the perfect time of year to visit this stunning corner of the world.

You could spend your days here doing not much at all. Reading, dreaming, playing card games, skipping stones in the river and drinking good wine by the fire are just a few of our favourite ‘stop the world spinning for a few days while I appreciate the little moments’ pursuits.

Or, you could fill your days exploring the picturesque fishing and swimming spots along the river mouth or at Flinders' Bay. You could climb the Leeuwin Lighthouse, try your luck trawling through the amazing local Op shops for that perfect find, take a walk to Flat Rock or head to the pub at dusk for arguably the most spectacular sunset view in WA.

You can do it all, do absolutely nothing, or spend your days finding the perfect balance of the two. That’s the beauty of this magical place.

However you choose to spend your time here, you will never forget the way this home and its surrounds will make you feel. And if you’re like us, once you’ve experienced the charm and beauty of this home and location, you’ll never want to leave.

Just One More Thing…

This home has been lovingly designed to sit peacefully in its environment and provide a space for serenity and calm, so we trust all who stay here will respect us (and our neighbours) by adhering to our strict no party policy.

Your commitment to keeping The Shipwright’s Mistress a haven for chilled, relaxed vibes is greatly appreciated.
